Ah, Labor Day weekend — the last official long weekend of the summer. This is the last chance to squeeze in one last summer escape — maybe a good chance for a last-minute vacation getaway or a BBQ at a relative’s house. I debated for a while whether or not to leave New York City this weekend. I could easily stay put and enjoy the incoming fall weather and avoid the mass exodus of traffic departing the city. But something is telling me to take one last weekend trip to turn off the engine, slow down and recharge the battery. A trip to a private lake in upstate New York sounds perfect! Lake Nebo is a private lake near Lake George. There are no roads leading to the cabins on the water, so visitors must canoe their way to the sites. Electricity is generated through solar panels, and the sauna and hot tub are heated with coals and fire. The area offers plenty of hiking, kayaking, water tubing and fishing. I can’t think of a better way to escape the city. I would love to promote Nebo to other travelers, but, alas, you must know someone to spend a weekend on the lake.
