According to Allianz Partners USA’s recent Top Valentine’s Day Destinations report, searches for Valentine’s Day travel plans jumped by 45 percent this year, compared to last year. To conduct the survey, Allianz reviewed more than 700,000 itineraries for round-trip flights departing U.S. airport Feb. 2–6, with a return Feb. 9–13, finding 71 percent of itineraries are for domestic travel and 29 percent are for international trips.

“Love is indeed in the air this year, with flight itineraries soaring around the Valentine’s Day holiday,” said Daniel Durazo, director of external communications, Allianz Partners USA. “For those who choose travel over chocolate and roses, it’s important to consider purchasing travel insurance to protect pre-paid travel investments from unpredictable events like trip cancellations or interruptions, travel delays, and baggage issues.”

Florida destinations Orlando, Fort Lauderdale and Miami take the top three spots for romantic destinations this year, followed by Honolulu, and Kahului, Hawai’i, taking spots four and five. Salt Lake City, at eight, and Denver, at 10, also showed up in the rankings. Internationally, beaches are a draw with Mexico, Aruba, Jamaica, Costa Rica and the Caribbean ranking. Cancún is No. 1, while St. Thomas is the first U.S. Virgin Island to appear on the roster in the 10 years Allianz has tracked Valentine’s Day travel.

High-Spirited Hong Kong: The Dynamic Hub Embraces Its Maritime History and Culture

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
