Within Tbilisi’s ancient Old Town lies Hotel Tbilisi, a Design Hotels property both celebrating Georgian culture and supporting Tbilisi’s latest creative movements. Situated in a property once on the verge of demolition, this hotel transformed the former three-story mansion into a beacon of Georgian history and heritage.

In each of the hotel’s 17 rooms and one suite, guests find hand-painted murals by acclaimed local artist Musya Qeburia. Each mural alludes to historic tales, blending sophisticated design with art, and QR codes found in-room allow guests to learn more about the stories of those depicted in the murals. In addition to beautiful wooden balconies, intricate old woodwork and welcoming terraces, the property features ancient doors, an original chimney and a wine cellar stocked with bottles produced at Original, Georgian Parliament Deputy Chairman, Jemal Inaishvili’s, own vineyard in Kakheti.

Designs incorporate modern, contemporary elements with details of Georgian culture. Tones of muted reds, burnt orange and dark greys complement the wooden floors, patterned wallpaper and hand-painted portraits in each room. Some rooms feature additional artwork sourced from the owner’s personal collection. Majority of the hotel’s bespoke furniture comes from upcycled wood, reflecting the city’s Eurasian heritage.

Rooms also feature muted hues of local textiles used for curtains to counterbalance the colorful and ancient Georgian handwoven rugs and carpets. Through partnerships with local businesses, these carpets are available for purchase. Rooms also boast marble bathrooms with rain showers. While the suite includes a soaking tub and distinct wooden balcony with views of the nearby Mtkvari River.

Hotel Tbilisi also features Blue Fox, a 72-seat restaurant with menus highlighting Georgian and other international cuisines. In addition to classic cocktails and exclusive Georgian wines, the restaurant emphasizes regional and seasonal ingredients through partnerships with brands like Rukhi Queen, a local honey producer, and Pancaviar, a local eco-farm supplying caviars and fish. Dishes at Blue Fox include mtsvadi, skewered meat roasted over coals; and khachapuri, a traditional Georgian dish Blue Fox puts a spin on by putting beans and marinated onions (or marinated salmon, lemon and cucumber) on top of the stuffing bread. Guests can dine al fresco or indoors.
