Culture and More in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

If you’re visiting Malaysia for business, there is no way you can do everything you want during your work trip. Extend your trip by a few days and make the most of your time in southeast Asia.

Highlights of the trip

  • Authentic shopping and dining in Kuala Lumpur’s Chinatown
  • Upscale shopping
  • See Kuala Lumpur from an observation tower
  • Explore the history of religion and Hinduism in the country
  • Relax on quiet beaches
  • Explore one of the oldest rainforests in the world

Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive in Kuala Lumpur for sightseeing and shopping
Day 2 In Kuala Lumpur, visit monuments and sites of importance.
Day 3 Travel through peninsular Malaysia, see national parks and more

Day 1

Consider a trip to Menara Kuala Lumpur to begin your adventure in the city. It is the seventh-tallest freestanding building in the world and the perfect spot to begin exploring. After seeing the city from the sky, go to Petaling Street. This local Chinatown is usually filled with visitors and locals alike. Grab some authentic food and soak up the culture. Spend hours during the day shopping at local traders. If you have time after exploring the market, make the trip to Bukit Bintang. Do some shopping in this upscale shopping district.

Day 2

Begin your second day in Kuala Lumpur with a visit to Dataran Merdeka. This historic square is the site where the Malaysian flag was hoisted for the first time. Next, walk to see the National Monument. The sculpture commemorates those who died fighting for Malaysian freedom and is the world’s tallest freestanding bronze sculpture. Go to Batu Caves to check out the hills and caves that make up the Hindu temples in the area. This is a great spot for photos and to learn about the history of religion in the region.

Day 3

In the morning, start heading north. The first stop is a visit to Taman Negara. This national park is also one of the world’s oldest rainforests. Spend hours exploring the park and taking in its natural beauty. Finish the day by traveling north to the Perhentian Islands. Some of these islands are uninhabited, and this is your best chance at a relaxing evening on the beach. The islands are filled with convenient lodging to make your last night of travel cozy before heading home.
