Happy Friday the 13th! Are you superstitious? I’m departing today for Savannah, Georgia, to celebrate a good friend’s bachelorette party, and I found myself trying to remember if I’ve ever traveled before on Friday the 13th. I likely have, but I cannot recall. Then I started wondering about travel superstitions around the globe, which led me to this article and many others.
Have you heard any of these? I didn’t include all the superstitions I found, just a few!
- In Bosnia they believe adding a clove of garlic to your suitcase brings good luck.
- In Russia, sitting on your suitcase is good luck.
- In Serbia, pouring water behind a traveler, demonstrating effortless movement, attracts luck.
- The Chinese believe holy books are put in place for a reason, and disturbing what is put there to protect you is bad luck, so leave the Bible or other holy book in place at a hotel where you find it.
- “Tvi, Tvi,” is a way to put a curse on someone in Norway. But if you do it before a trip, it’s good luck, as the spirits will not bother someone already cursed.
- In Latin America, running around the house seven times not only increases good luck on a trip but also brings more travels in the new year.
Do you personally have any superstitions or good luck charms you do or take with you to ensure good luck in your travels?
