Just because the 2022 World Cup is over doesn’t mean Qatar plans to slow down anytime soon. In fact, the country anticipates some exciting new hotels, restaurants and exhibitions, as well as sporting events, in 2023. In February, Qatar ExxonMobil Open, one of two ATP tour events held in the Middle East, takes place. Additionally, Qatar Masters 2023 will take place at Doha Golf Club, followed by the 2023 AFC Asian Cup later in 2023.

Qatar’s Lusail International Circuit hosts the Formula 1 Qatar Grand Prix 2023, Oct. 5–8, marking the first of at least 10 consecutive Formula 1 races in the country. The next month, Nov. 17–19, the country hosts the 2023 Grand Prix of Qatar, also known as Qatar MotoGP.

Two large-scale exhibitions come to Qatar in 2023, as well. The Doha Jewellry and Watches Exhibition 2023, Feb. 20–25, showcases the best of craftsmanship, while the 2023 World Horticultural Exposition takes place in Doha, October 2023–March 2024. This event focuses on greening the desert and helping the environment, with 3 million people expected to attend.

This year, 2023, sees Qatar also become a luxury hotel hot spot for visitors and locals alike. Many upscale hotels expect to open this year, including The St. Regis Marsa Arabia Island, The Pearl-Qatar, a 193-suite hotel offering panoramic views and world-renowned restaurants. Other hotels opening in Qatar in 2023 include Rixos Gulf Hotel Doha, Waldorf Astoria Doha West Bay, Andaz Doha and Katara Hills Doha, LXR Hotels & Resorts.

Now’s the Time to See Giza, the Nile and Beyond

All archaeology-obsessed eyes turned hopefully toward Egypt earlier this year when the highly anticipated Grand Egyptian Museum outside Cairo finally began welcoming visitors after construction delays, funding roadblocks and political upheaval in the region (among other factors) conspired to keep things delayed for many long years. The museum’s cherry on the top is slated to open this summer, with the July opening of the museum’s 20-plus-years-in-the-making Tutankhamen galleries and accompanying cache of some 5,000 artifacts and treasures from the boy king’s tomb.

By-the-cabin Yachting Redefines the Cruise Experience

I wish this day could last forever!” my windswept 9-year-old exclaimed, his voice soaring over the Mediterranean. He gripped the helm of a Bali 4.6 sailing catamaran off the coast of Marseille, his sun- bleached hair whipping in the salty breeze. The scent of the sea mingled with the aroma of warm baguettes drifting from the Côte d’Azur shoreline. Our captain, a seasoned sailor, subtly adjusted course, letting my son feel the exhilarating pull of the wind against the sails. As the waves lapped against the hull, I realized this was no ordinary vacation — this was freedom, unfiltered.
