As travel begins to make a comeback, airports and TSA are preparing for an increase of travelers. The process of going through TSA is going to look a little different in order to promote social distancing and avoid cross contamination.
TSA requires travelers and employees to wear a mask or face covering, and keep a six-foot social distance. The new protocol starts at the TSA entrance — instead of handing the agent your boarding pass and ID, you will scan it yourself. After scanning the documents, guests will hold it out for the TSA officer to visually inspect.
Before going through the X-ray scanner, travelers are to put all belongings, including phones, belts and wallets, in their bag to save time and avoid cross contamination from the containers. Travelers are also encouraged to check their bags and make sure all liquids, aerosols and gels are in the checked luggage. If a suspected prohibited item is in the bag, travelers may be required to go outside of security to remove the item.
Travelers are now allowed to travel with one liquid hand sanitizer up to 12 ounces. If traveling with hand sanitizer or food, travelers are expected to put these items in a clear plastic bag to be put into a separate tray before going through the X-ray screening.
