Chicago’s electronic music heritage is front and center at Viceroy Chicago. The luxury hotel partnered with The Vintage House Show — a fusion of radio show, podcast and collective of music historians — to present House Masterclass. Guests can delve deep into the history of the city’s house music scene through guided tours, private studio sessions and other immersive experiences.
Originating in the late 1970s, House Music launched Chicago front and center on the music scene. The House Masterclass experience includes an exclusive, in-room welcome amenity; a historian-led guided tour of Chicago’s most famous music house venues, including Gramophone Records and The Warehouse; luxury car service between all locations on the tour; and a private, in-studio mixing session with one of Chicago’s House Music pioneers, such as The Warehouse founder Robert Williams, internationally acclaimed producer and DJ Joe Smooth, or DJ Lady D, regarded as the “Queen of Chicago House Music.” Additionally, there’s an opportunity to have the mixing sessions broadcast live on Chicago’s legendary WNUR-89.3 FM station.
“At Viceroy Chicago, we are proud to connect our guests with the soul of the city through curated experiences that celebrate its rich history, diverse culture and legendary arts scene,” said Patrick Lacassagne, general manager, Viceroy Chicago. “Collaborating with The Vintage House Show allows us to offer an authentic and immersive journey into the heart of Chicago’s creative spirit, from its iconic neighborhoods to the birthplace of a genre of music beloved around the world.”
Located in Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood, Viceroy Chicago has 180 rooms and suites offering views of Lake Michigan or the city. Once the site of the historic Cedar Hotel, the Viceroy provides guest access to a rooftop pool and 18th-floor Pandan lounge, where the menu of craft cocktails and small bites is inspired by Southeast Asian dishes. Exclusive to guests, House Masterclass begins at $1,750 (separately from accommodations), with reservations required at least seven business days in advance.

I was surprised to learn Denmark consistently ranks among the world’s happiest countries. Sure, Scandinavia is lovely, but that Nordic weather hardly seemed conducive to soaring serotonin levels. When I finally visited Copenhagen, it all made sense. Whether you’re a fashionista, a Michelin-star chaser, a Viking history buff or just a curious traveler, the Danish capital promises an endless feast.
