After a grand, 15-month-long renovation, the 128-year-old Scandic Holmenkollen Park in Oslo reopened the doors of all 10 of the property’s buildings, including the Dragbyggnaden building, built in the iconic Norwegian dragon style. From the dramatic lobby with its open fire pit to the relaxing Artesia SPA (opening in September), guests can immerse themselves in the best of traditional Nordic luxury. All told, there are 376 guestrooms and suites, along with an enlarged spa and gym and new meeting and event spaces that can accommodate a total of 1,200 people.
“This marks the beginning of a new era for Scandic Holmenkollen Park. The hotel has a history that stretches back 128 years, and by renovating and modernizing it, we’re well prepared for the future. Scandic Holmenkollen Park has a unique location high above Oslo and we are very much looking forward to welcoming our first summer guests,” said Claus Petersen, hotel director, Scandic Holmenkollen Park.
Guests will find Holmenkollen Park Bistro & Bar à la carte restaurant within the Dragbyggnaden building. The menu celebrates Norwegian ingredients and Norway’s tradition of waffles and coffee with a savory spin: toppings of sour cream, roe, egg yolk and pickled onions. The building is also home to an extensive wine cellar.
The property is located next to Holmenkollen National Ski Arena, with beautiful walking and hiking trails dipping into Nordmarka forest. Also close by is Skimore Oslo, with a climbing park, corporate and group challenges and both alpine and cross-country skiing. Respect for the hotel’s nature setting can be found in numerous sustainable initiatives, including building compliance with BREEAM-NOR, Norway’s premiere environmental certification for building design.
The hotel is also certified through Nordic Swan Ecolabel’s demanding criteria stipulating the use of eco-labeled products and chemicals, 100-percent renewable electricity, the absence of single-use disposables, reduced water consumption, a climate-friendly menu, and reduced food waste.
