Often cited as one of Michigan’s best beach towns and one of America’s top foodie towns, Traverse City is also an easy destination for spring and summer events. May 2–3, enjoy Sip & Savor with a brunch wine and food pairing at 17 wineries along the Leelanau Peninsula Wine Trail. June wine events include Divas Uncorked (June 12) at wineries of the Old Mission Peninsula, the Leland Wine and Food Festival (June 13) with food, music and wine; and the Traverse City Wine & Art Festival (June 20).
Other area events include a Downtown Art Walk on May 1, and Old Mission Blossom Day on May 16. During the weekend of May 15–16, dress up in your best asparagus costume and head to The Empire Asparagus Festival. That’s right: song, dance, sports competitions, asparagus cook-offs and the annual Ode to Asparagus Poetry Competition. Follow up you vegetable experience with the Traverse Colantha Walker Dairy Festival on June 14, celebrating the town’s most famous cow with a pancake breakfast, farmers market, arts and crafts, the Great Grilled Cheese Grill-Off and a memorial parade in honor of Colantha the cow.
