THE PLAZA, located in Seoul, South Korea, and a member of Hanwha Hotels & Resorts, joined Marriott International’s Autograph Collection, a global portfolio of hotels selected for their bold originality, rich character and uncommon details. It marks the hotel collection’s first property in South Korea. THE PLAZA can now leverage Autograph Collection’s global sales and marketing channels, award-winning Marriott Rewards loyalty program and management expertise.
THE PLAZA is conveniently located nearby many of South Korea’s historic sites, as well as important business and financial institutions. Italian architect and designer Guido Ciompi designed the décor and furniture of the 410-room hotel, featuring environmentally friendly materials. On-site event space includes nine banquet halls, a Grand Ballroom and Xystum House on the hotel’s 22nd floor. All the restaurants and bars at THE PLAZA meet the culinary expectations of the Autograph Collection.
“The Autograph Collection is a unique ensemble of independent hotels that we are fast expanding in Asia,” said Craig Smith, president and managing director, Marriott International. “THE PLAZA, with its rich heritage and special location as well as its quality service, will enable travelers to experience the charm of the city in style, truly fitting the brand promise of the Autograph Collection.”
THE PLAZA’s concierge services can be found throughout the hotel, from the front door to the banquet halls and restaurants. Private service is provided before, during and after the stay, and guests can specify requests at the time of booking through the e-concierge service.
“We are delighted that the partnership will combine Marriott International’s strength in global marketing and sales as well as THE PLAZA’s local brand and heritage,” said Shim Kyung Seob, CEO, Hanwha Hotels & Resorts. “This is an important milestone as the hotel celebrates its 40th anniversary next year.”

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay.
