In the Hamptons each September, the hottest ticket in town is not a “Billionaire Lane” benefit gala or a White Party hosted by the summer’s celebrity du jour, but a $600 million collection of rare, classic and modern supercars gingerly parked on the pristine fairways of The Bridge Golf Club, owned by billionaire Bob Rubin.

Freshly cut grass, a salty ocean breeze and petrol first pumped during the Eisenhower administration commingle with Instagram-worthy gourmet food trucks on the club’s 300-acre hilltop, which displays Rubin’s love for modern sculpture, unparalleled views of Peconic Bay and Sag Harbor, and a Roger Ferris-designed course with a seven-figure initiation fee.

The Bridge, which celebrates its 10^th anniversary Sept. 19, casts a long history. Sitting on the hallowed grounds of the former Bridgehampton Race Circuit, the show is one of the only automotive gatherings in the world held on the grounds of a historic race circuit, where Andretti, Shelby, McLaren and other household names battled it out in the 1960s.

Rubin, along with luxury lifestyle publicist Shamin Abas and high-profile defense attorney and car aficionado Jeffrey Einhorn, revived the land’s automotive legacy as a coveted invitation on the social calendar. Each year brings 300 of the world’s rarest cars to the historic Bridgehampton Race Circuit, along with the world’s most sophisticated car enthusiasts, design sybarites and art aficionados, at Rubin’s personal invitation.

Exclusivity and the show’s garden party vibe is part of the appeal. “The Bridge is a private club, and the members like it that way, right? So to get them to be happy, to open up the club to the Mongol hordes has been a gradual process, and one of the ways we do that is we give them tickets to invite their friends,” said Rubin. “That kills two birds with one stone, because they control access to the car show, and it makes the sponsors happy, because that’s the demographic they want.”

The show also differs from others of its ilk, such as Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and Amelia Island Concours in golf enclaves from California to Florida, mainly because there’s no judging allowed — no car owners politicking a judging committee — and no signage spoiling the unvarnished views.

The wealthy coastal hamlet of Bridgehampton became a leader in motor racing’s post-World War II revival. The old Bridgehampton circuit opened in 1957 when New York banned racing on public roads. Spectators lined the route’s country roads by the thousands, watching legends like Carroll Shelby and Bruce McLaren push their machines to the limit.

But by 1981, the track had fallen into disrepair. Rubin, a former community newspaper reporter turned Wall Street currency trader, purchased it and kept it going until noise complaints led him to convert the land into a golf course 25 years ago.

Does he mind pre-war Bugattis, custom air-cooled builds by Gunther Werks, and modern McLaren F1s parking on his meticulously manicured turf? In a word: No.

“One thing we did last year that we’ve never done is park a few hundred regular cars on the third fairway,” Rubin said. “I was surprised that my superintendent agreed to that, but it made air traffic control a lot easier.”
