A recent survey from SSI QuickPoll found participants are highly aware of the potential for terrorist threats in Europe and the United States. Thirty-seven percent indicated a concern for terrorist threats in European destinations, with 30 percent expressing a similar concern for terrorist threats in domestic destinations. These numbers were much higher than travelers’ anxieties regarding the Zika virus in relevant destinations and safety issues stemming from Europe’s migrant situation. Despite these concerns, however, 13 percent said they would travel to Europe within the year, and 14 percent were considering it. Paris was one of the top destinations chosen, even with last year’s terror attacks. “The threat of terrorism both at home and abroad is a real factor for people considering their travel plans. What’s fascinating is that despite this more general concern of terrorism, some people are still planning trips to regions that recently experienced attacks,” said Jackie Lorch, vice president of knowledge management, SSI. Survey participants were asked to also rate various destinations according to their threat level to Americans. Out of the destinations given, Israel was rated as the most dangerous for American travelers. North Africa, Egypt and France followed. Those with the lowest threat ratings included the Caribbean and Canada.
