I celebrated my birthday this past week in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, with my boyfriend and a few of our closest friends. I hesitated about going for a few days, but who am I kidding? It was a much-needed break from the monotony this year has brought us — plus, the driving practice was great!

A lot of people have celebrated birthdays during quarantine. Families had to cancel kids’ birthday parties, people who had birthday trips planned postponed, and people turning 21 weren’t able to go to a bar at midnight. People around the world are finding new ways to make birthdays as special as they can; one way is a drive-by birthday parade. Friends and family decorate their cars with birthday signs and drive by honking and screaming, "Happy birthday!"
Birthdays look a little different for so many this year. So far, while in quarantine, my dad’s birthday came and went, as has my fiancé’s. I participated in a birthday parade last weekend for another friend, and tomorrow and in a few weeks, two more friends, who live in Connecticut, will celebrate quarantine birthdays. My mom will celebrate both Mother’s Day and her upcoming birthday in quarantine as well, since the lockdown has been extended in Pennsylvania until June 4.
United Airlines remains firmly committed toward sustainability in aviation. The latest development in its eco-conscious goals includes working with Oxy Low Carbon Ventures to commercialize the production of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) with biotech firm Cemvita Factory. Cemvita looks to develop a revolutionary new way to produce SAF by using carbon dioxide and synthetic microbes. Additionally, United Airlines Ventures (UAV) recently announced an equity investment in Fulcrum, and United has invested more in SAF production than any other airline in the world.
