Survey Says: Passengers Aren’t Keen On Biometric IDs

Aug 12, 2015
Daily

Major airlines are beginning to roll out fingerprint scanning as a way to replace the traditional boarding pass. At the same time, biometrics is gaining momentum as the identification mode of choice across many industries, including fields associated with travel security and convenience.

But there’s pushback by airline passengers intent on maintaining some degree of privacy. A recent survey by Boxever reveals lack of trust is a leading factor in air travel passengers’ reticence to hand over sensitive personal information like fingerprints.

The Boxever survey reveals:

  • 66 percent of business travelers surveyed don’t want brands tracking their location;
  • 61 percent of business travelers surveyed would like to receive offers targeted to where they are and what they are doing;
  • 56 percent of business travelers surveyed don’t want to share their personal information;
  • 56 percent of business travelers surveyed want offers tailored to their interests and needs.
