Royal Caribbean Receives New Goodies

Jul 22, 2017
News

Royal Caribbean International announced Independence of the Seas will receive many new attractions during the April 2018 renovation.

Some of the upgrades include new water slides and escape rooms, as well as laser tag and a trampoline park. Various vessels have water slides and escape rooms, but never before has a plural amount of escape rooms been present on one of its singular ships. The Harmony of the Seas notably features just one escape room, Escape the Rubicon, but Independence of the Seas will be receiving two. Entirely new to the cruise line will be laser tag and a full top deck trampoline park. The new attractions will join existing ship favorites like the FlowRider surf simulator, rock climbing wall and H2O Zone water park, all of which will remain.

The 4,370-guest ship is sisters with Liberty of the Seas and Freedom of the Seas and is currently sailing the Mediterranean on eight- to 14-night cruises. The ship will arrive back in Fort Lauderdale Nov. 13, and sail four- and five-night cruises to the Caribbean during the winter months.

Travel agents in the United Kingdom and Ireland had the idea for the ship additions as part of a contest with Travel Weekly U.K.

What Maui Visitors Need to Know

Explore Portugal on a Wine Tasting Tour with a Touch of History

All it takes is one glance at the grounds of Quinta Dona Maria, which includes a grand villa and surrounding gardens, to realize wine tasting in Portugal comes with a good dose of history. The vineyard is located in Estremoz, just northeast of the first-century Roman ruins found in Evora. In 1718 King João V built this estate for his lover, Dona Maria. When she died, the current owner’s ancestors purchased the land and have been making wine ever since. Taste the wine, which is terrific, especially the full-bodied red Dona Maria Grand Reserve. Then venture inside a building that stores large amphora vases, including one dating back to the 1200s.
