Here’s news about recent route kick-offs and new service announcements.

On Aug. 8, Alaska Airlines launched service to Mexico City’s Benito Juarez International Airport from San Francisco International Airport and Los Angeles International Airport. On Nov. 6, Alaska will add service between San Diego International Airport and Mexico City as well. The year-round, non-stop service is operating once daily between Mexico City and San Francisco and twice daily between Mexico City and Los Angeles. American Airlines will add two new destinations to its route map — Budapest (BUD) and Prague (PRG) — when it begins daily summer service to both cities May 4, 2018, from Philadelphia International Airport. On that same day, American will also begin summer service (May 4–Oct. 27) to Venice (VCE) from Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport. Service to Budapest and Prague will be on a Boeing 767-300; flights between ORD and Venice will be on a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. More details here.

Hawaiian Airlines will add three new daily non-stop routes to West Coast cities in early 2018, when its Airbus A321neo jets begin arriving. The routes are: Portland (PDX)–Maui (OGG); Oakland (OAK)–Kaua‘i (LIH); and Los Angeles–Kona (KOA). Details about the amenities on these new planes and flight schedules can be found here.

And United Airlines announced that in fall 2018 it will begin operating six daily flights from Paine Field (PAE) in Everett, Wash., 23 miles north of Seattle, and its hubs in Denver (DEN) and San Francisco. In May, Alaska Airlines announced it will operate nine daily flights out of Paine Field–Snohomish County Airport as well.

Paine Field is where Boeing currently produces many of its jets and right now the airfield is used mostly by Boeing aircraft and private aircraft. To accommodate the new commercial services, Propeller Airports is building a new terminal at Paine Field.
