ARRIVAL/CHECK IN: From the moment Park Hyatt Vienna landed on my itinerary, I looked forward to my time visiting this destination. A century ago, the building housed the former Bank of Austria. Today Park Hyatt Vienna commands a striking elegance, feeling sturdy and strong, with several nods to the bank still intact. Sitting in an ideal location, the hotel is within walking distance of Goldense Quartieer, St. Stephan’s Cathedral and Hofburg Palace, allowing me to check several of Vienna’s most iconic sites off my list during my free time.

My arrival and check-in were simple and swift. I was also greeted by the concierge and invited to a media party taking place that afternoon, showcasing the hotel’s newly renovated penthouse suite.

GUEST QUARTERS: I walked through two separate key card swipes on the way to my King Deluxe room, appropriately named for both the size of the bed and the size of the room overall. This unique, linear layout placed the bed at the back of the room, with a chaise sofa at the foot of the bed, followed by a mother-of-pearl coffee table, armchair and hidden flat-screen TV at the front of the room. Gold accents, dark woods and sophisticated art captured the spirit of Viennese elegance with modern design.

The five-piece bathroom was equally large, with dual vanities separated by an entry from the bedroom (one on the left, the other on the right). Alongside the entrance corridor, a walk- in closet allowed me to unpack and enjoy the independent space apart from the bathroom and bedroom.

Lastly, a kind welcome gift from the hotel of brut Champagne on ice and a box of macarons brought a warm smile to my face.

SERVICES/AMENITIES: In the heart of the hotel you’ll find Bank Brasserie and Bar with breakfast, lunch and dinner options available. A grandiose and opulent setting, the restaurant and bar sit within the original banking hall, surrounded by white marble, stained glass, coffered ceilings and gorgeous accents blending old and new together seamlessly.

During my stay I enjoyed a full European breakfast spread, receiving both excellent service and quality ingredients as I marveled at my sophisticated surroundings. Café Am Hof and The Bolliparadise also offer desserts, snacks, à la carte options and Viennese pastries. Additionally, Park Hyatt Vienna boasts Rosanno Ferretti Hairspa for pampering and Arany Spa for health and wellness.

TOP TAKEAWAYS:

  • Modern, 5-star elegance in a historic location
  • Steps away from shopping, cafés, restaurants and cultural attractions
  • Former banking offices, the grand salon and private event spaces are must-sees as well.
