ARRIVAL/CHECK-IN: I traveled to Coral Gables, Florida, for the first time to attend the annual GT Tested Reader Survey awards event. Hyatt Regency Coral Gables was my home during my two-night visit. The property sits a short drive from Miami International Airport. I shared a car with my colleagues who were on my flight, and we pulled up to the property in less than 20 minutes. The hotel was decked out for the holidays with a beautifully decorated Christmas tree in the lobby. The check-in process was smooth, and thankfully my room was ready early.
GUEST QUARTERS: My king guestroom on the fifth floor overlooked the pool. It featured a small, walk- out patio opening to the pool terrace, so I made sure to keep the door locked during my stay. Despite the proximity, I did not hear noise from guests enjoying the pool.
In addition to standard amenities, the room featured a spacious desk, sitting area, discreet mini-fridge, complimentary WiFi, standalone shower and plenty of outlets. The room also boasted unique touches. For instance, the bathroom mirror featured a digital clock. I appreciated the convenience of this amenity as I got ready for the day, and I slept well thanks to the comfortable bed and black-out curtains.
SERVICES/AMENITIES: After settling into our rooms, two of my colleagues and I decided to grab a quick bite in the lobby-level Bar 50. The venue offers a light bar menu from 2 to 5 p.m. Two of us ordered chicken tenders and fries — the portions were massive! The entire GT team visited Bar 50 following the awards for delectable late-night bites and drinks.
Perks Coffee Shop is a great option for a quick morning bite. I grabbed a coffee and yogurt there the first morning of my stay. The property also offers a sit-down breakfast and lunch spot, Two Sisters. In-room dining is available 7 a.m.–11:30 p.m.
Located on the fifth floor, the property’s outdoor pool is open daily, 6 a.m.–10 p.m. While I didn’t have time to take a dip, I did enjoy sitting at one of the tables by the pool with a coffee. Seasonal poolside dining is available Friday–Sunday, 11 a.m.–6 p.m. Hyatt Regency’s fitness center on the seventh floor, open 24 hours, offers an array of cardio equipment and weight machines.
Though my stay at Hyatt Regency Coral Gables was short, I enjoyed my time at the property. It’s a great option for a business or leisure stay.
TOP TAKEAWAYS:
- The property is conveniently located a short walking distance from a variety of shops, restaurants and Coral Gables Museum.
- Stop by the lobby-level Market, open 24 hours, for snacks, drinks and other sundries.
- Hyatt Regency Coral Gables welcomes pets, offering pet-friendly rooms and several nearby parks for walks.
