ARRIVAL/CHECK-IN: After your train arrives at Penn Station, the last thing you want is a long journey to your hotel room, which makes Arlo Midtown the perfect choice for a Manhattan trip. The hotel is conveniently located a mere 10-minute walk from the transportation hub. We easily made our way, luggage in tow, through the hustle and bustle of the city and through the hotel’s inviting front doors. The lobby’s interior has an open feel, sleek and hip, with lush greenery placed along shelves and hanging from planters, adding life to the space. The welcoming and kind front desk attendant quickly checked us in.
GUEST QUARTERS: My partner and I were set up in a King City room, which from its high vantage point and almost wall-sized windows provided ample views of the city below as well as plenty of sunlight. As expected with a hotel in the heart of Manhattan, every square inch of space was utilized, and though the quarters were small, we had more than enough space for our belongings. Across from the bathroom a combination open closet/dresser also housed a small ice bucket and some shelves for extra storage, and in the corner across from the entrance sat a bench with a small side table where we put on our shoes or threw our bags. The bathroom was tastefully tiled in a soothing blue and contained a surprisingly spacious shower behind a glass door.
SERVICES/AMENITIES: I took full advantage of the lobby café. My mocha latte was just what I needed to be ready to face a day exploring the city. I regret we did not have time in our packed schedule to check out the hotel’s restaurant, Altair. On our last day, storing our luggage at the hotel after checking out was seamless. And when we came to pick up our luggage and had time to kill before our train home, the lobby’s couches provided a comfortable space to sit.
TOP TAKEAWAYS:
- The offer of complimentary Ghirardelli chocolate squares at check-in made for an extra-sweet arrival.
- Arlo Midtown has all your bases covered, from an umbrella left in each room for guests’ use during their stays to Citi Bike passes included to ensure you can zip around the city.
- Across from the elevators, a wall covered with taped-up notes from past guests invites visitors to memorialize their stay and make their mark on the space.
