The Transportation Security Administration is experiencing an epidemic of long lines and dissatisfied travelers. Airlines for America asks travelers to help decrease wait times when possible, aiding TSA in combating this growing issue. “Our recently released passenger satisfaction survey tells us that the efficiency of the security process is a major factor of their overall flying experience. The Department of Transportation’s benchmark of the maximum acceptable wait time is 29 minutes, but we are seeing lines that go 60 or 90 minutes at some major airports. That’s why we are doing everything we can to help make the process more efficient for passengers and TSA alike,” said Sharon Pinkerton, senior vice president of legislative and regulatory policy, Airlines for America. Passengers are being asked to consider enrolling in TSA PreCheck if possible, which can not only cut down on wait times, but also improve passengers’ flight experience, as travelers enrolled in an expedited screening process typically have an overall more satisfying flight. Passengers are also asked to be prepared for TSA personnel by having boarding passes and identification ready to go before reaching the front of the line. They are also reminded to arrive at the airport two hours before domestic flights depart, and three hours before international flights depart, and to be sure to follow all TSA rules when packing.
