Oakland International Airport saw an increase in international traffic during the last year, providing an alternative airport for foreign travelers to access the Bay Area of California. Until recently, international flights mainly operated in and out of San Francisco International Airport, with domestic overflow flights operating out of Oakland and San Jose (SJC), but this year OAK welcomes new long-haul services in both directions around the world.
In February, the airport’s first non-stop flight to Rome (FCO) since 2001 with Norwegian Air, a journey that will occur twice per week from OAK, and takes 12 hours and 35 minutes. Norwegian also launched flights from OAK to Barcelona (BCN), Copenhagen (CPH), London Gatwick Airport, Oslo (OSL) and Stockholm (ARN), with service to Paris (CDG) beginning this month.
Norwegian has been flying out of OAK since 2014, and has been able to offer affordable direct flights to Europe for travelers on the West Coast.
