Miami’s most powerful contemporary artists are on view in “Deconstruction: A Reordering of Life, Politics and Art” at the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum FIU in Miami. Coinciding with the museum’s 10^th anniversary celebration, the exhibit is on view through Sept. 30. Each of the 12 featured artists use their work as a medium to confront and explore current global issues, including the growing disconnection in social interaction as technology continues to influence interpersonal communication.

Featured artists include Eddie Arroyo, Zachary Balber, Frida Baranek, Christopher Carter, Leyden Rodriguez-Casanova, Yanira Collado, Gonzalo Fuenmayor, Pepe Mar, Glexis Novoa, Sandra Ramos, Jamilah Sabur and Frances Trombly. Artists Carter, Collado, Fuenmayor and Mar each created new works specifically for this exhibition and anniversary celebration. Mar’s contribution is a large-scale, site-specific installation that pays homage to late artist Craig Coleman.

The museum — founded in 1977 and distinguished as one of the largest freestanding art museums in the state — is located at Florida International University, and is the Smithsonian Affiliate in Miami. The new building, located beside a lake, opened in 2008 and was designed by Yann Weymouth. The museum is closed Mondays and most legal holidays, while the outdoors Sculpture Park is open daily.
