Meliá Hotels International will bring three new hotels to Asia and Africa.
The Gran Meliá Maldives will be situated on an atoll about an hour’s trip from Malé International Airport. The property is scheduled to open its doors in October 2017 and will include 95 villas and 100 guestrooms, with three restaurants, a bar and café, spa and shopping. The hotel will also be able to host events on a private island nearby.
Meliá Serengeti Lodge, the company’s first luxury sustainable hotel, will open in June 2017. Located in Tanzania, the property will be only a short drive from Seronera Airport, a mile below the peak of Nyamuma. The location is perfect for viewing the annual migrations of a variety of wildlife, including wildebeest, lions, leopards and zebra. The lodge will be built on three natural terraces and offer 50 guest rooms, lounges, restaurants and an infinity pool. The sustainable hotel will use eco-friendly energy sources, and building materials will be chosen according to their carbon footprint.
The first Meliá hotel in Kazakhstan, Meliá Almaty will be located in a mountainous region perfect for winter sports. The country has a growing tourism industry, with 8 million travelers per year expected by 2024. The hotel will open in 2018 and offer 200 guestrooms and 50 suites. With a modern steel and glass design, the hotel will feature a restaurant, bar, lounge, spa, meeting facilities and fitness center.
