Mauna Kea Beach Hotel on Kohala Coast, Hawai’i, recently unveiled its $180-plus million renovation, in time for the resort’s 60th anniversary this year. Resort-wide enhancements include updated guestrooms and suites, new pools, a redesigned golf course, and the debut of Hau Tree Cantina.
The massive transformation reimagined the resort’s 252 guestrooms and suites, featuring Hawaiian textiles, plantation shutters, bedside lighting control panels and deep soaking tubs in bathrooms. Other resort updates include eight new pickleball courts, an adults-only infinity pool and enhanced dining experiences.
The Spa at Mauna Kea is expected to debut this spring with 11 indoor and outdoor treatment rooms, steam and sauna facilities, and a spa pool. Treatments utilize Hawaiian healing traditions.
“This renovation represents a defining moment for Mauna Kea Beach Hotel,” said Craig Anderson, vice president of operations, Mauna Kea Beach Hotel. “Our goal was to elevate every aspect of the guest experience while preserving the essence of Mauna Kea’s legacy, a place where land, art and aloha exist in harmony. We look forward to welcoming back generations of friends while inviting new ones to share in the beauty and tranquility of Old Hawai’i here at Mauna Kea.”
Ahead of a grand reopening gala June 5, the resort offers guests a limited-time deal. The four-night stay includes daily breakfast for two and two tickets to the gala.

Sep 30, 2026Review: Sushi by Scratch at Grand Hyatt Deer Valley
Husband-and-wife team Phillip Frankland Lee and Margarita Kallas-Lee made their mark by reinventing the term “hidden gem” through their surprising and intentional collection of destination restaurants. While they launched the original Scratch Kitchen in 2013, an expired lease prompted them to relocate to an unassuming strip mall in suburban Encino in 2015 and rename it Scratch Bar & Kitchen. Even at a time when the San Fernando Valley was not known for innovative 5-star dining, the Lees’ concepts gathered such a strong buzz that discerning diners cheerfully followed them “over the hill.”
