For Marriott, the next few years in the Philippines will be explosive as the brand intends to triple its portfolio in the country. By 2024, the company expects to operate more than 5,000 rooms there.
The expansion will also act as the introduction of five new brands to the country — The Ritz-Carlton, Element, Westin and more. Currently, Marriott International operates four properties in the Philippines. By the end of 2024, it plans to open 14 new properties, adding 3,700 new rooms. In the same period, Marriott plans to begin operating in five new destinations including Caticlan, Cebu, Davao, Mactan and Palawan.
“We look forward to bringing new hotels to the Philippines together with our trusted hotel owners, enabling more choices with unsurpassed experiences for our travelers,” said Craig Smith, president and managing director, Marriott International Asia Pacific.
Earlier this year, a 390-room Sheraton Manila Hotel marked the Sheraton debut in the Philippines. The Westin brand is expected to debut in 2021 with the Westin Manila Sonata Place. The first Element property will open in 2024. In addition to the new properties, many hotel conversions will become Marriott-affiliated brands.
“Conversions are one way that we grow our footprint; they allow us to quickly bring hotels into Marriott International’s portfolio, allowing guests to enjoy the benefits of our renowned travel program, Marriott Bonvoy, and providing them with the assurance of a global company,” said Paul Foskey, chief development officer, Asia Pacific, Marriott International.
