Late January is Most Popular Time for Cruise Booking

Jan 19, 2019
News

A new report from InsureMyTrip and Cruise Critic reveals more travelers book cruises in late January than any other time of year. Data shows online searches for cruise deals spike in early January, followed by a surge in cruise deposits the last several days of January.

“This new data indicates that when it comes to booking a cruise, the traditional so-called ‘Wave Season’ actually peaks in late January and remains strong through March. Then, cruise bookings slow down during the late spring and summer months,” said Danny DeMello, data analyst, InsureMyTrip.

The report also indicated some expected 2019 cruising trends. These include technology enhancements across ships, including improved WiFi capabilities; longer times in port and less time at sea on many itineraries; increased demand for cruise-specific travel insurance; and more personalized experiences for suite passengers.

“Many cruise lines, including MSC, Norwegian and Celebrity, have introduced private enclaves for suite passengers, with entrances not accessible to others. Cruise lines are continuing to look for ways to make the cruising experience even more special for those passengers,” commented Colleen McDaniel, senior executive editor, Cruise Critic.
