Chicago’s spanking new Kinzie Hotel celebrates the city’s history with design features celebrating 19th-century Chicago and the city’s pioneer settler, businessman-silversmith-fur trader John Kinzie.
Guests will find surfaces meant to suggest the city’s environment such as metallic grey iridescent tile in the lobby (city streets glistening with rain), a collection of specially commissioned works by local artists celebrating the city’s diverse urban landscape, and an historic pre-Chicago fire navigational map that dominates the behind-the-bed wall in each of the 215 guestrooms.
Posh rooms include generous workspace, EcoSmart window shades and baths with granite countertops. Positioned in the vibrant River North neighborhood, the sleek interior houses three separate, state-of-the-art meeting spaces, including a boardroom named for Kinzie’s friend Billy “Sauganash” Caldwell. For post-meeting meet-ups, the Double Cross Lounge on the sixth floor, open to 8 p.m., has a full-service bar and plenty of comfortable lounge space.
