Barcelona-based interior architecture studio EQUIPO CREATIVO once again brought its signature design to Kimpton Hotels, this time leading the redesign of all public spaces at newly renovated Kimpton Los Monteros Marbella, an IHG hotel on Spain’s Costa del Sol. The designers’ approach for the project was inspired by Marbella’s lush landscape and cultural heritage, and includes a colorful 1970s look.

The redesigned property opened earlier this year, drawing inspiration from Andalusia’s vibrant greenery and the Mediterranean light. Marbella’s distinctive scenery, evoked in Andalusian poetry, serves as a stunning thread, with an emphasis on weaving lush vegetation and natural elements throughout the spaces. Additionally, the works of Picasso, born in Málaga, and other Spanish artists, influence the project, particularly in the use of curves, color and ceramic craftsmanship with a bold and modern twist.

While drawing from Mediterranean tradition, a 1970s-inspired touch reflects the building’s original architecture from that era. This influence is evident in the use of geometric patterns, built-in niches and light-filtering elements.

Upon entering the lobby and lounge areas, guests are welcomed by a warm and inviting ambience with a white Mediterranean background and colorful furnishings. Hand-painted murals inspired by Picasso add an artistic touch to the property. This philosophy extends into its lounges and library, where an eclectic, artsy and warm environment is achieved through crafted objects.

The existing Andalusian patio, one of the hotel’s original and essential elements, is enhanced with more lush vegetation, simplified architectural features and a central sculptural water element.

The pool area is reimagined with a warm white backdrop enhancing the natural turquoise of the water. Multilevel platforms create a vibrant atmosphere inviting relaxation. Nestled on one of these platforms, Costa Club Pool Bar stands out with its terracotta tiles and latticework. A wooden pergola filters the light, casting playful shadows that evoke an authentic Mediterranean retreat.

Azul Bar has been a Marbella icon since 1962. The bar’s updated design features large hand-painted murals where shades of blue Picasso-inspired feminine forms come to life. The space effortlessly balances elegance and ease, creating a seamless day-to-night atmosphere that feels both vibrant and refined.

Jara Restaurant not only offers fresh Caribbean cuisine, but its white backdrop also contrasts with green ceramic files and plants. A carefully curated layout provides a cozy dining experience. Angled walls create intimate corners, too.

Escondido is a bold and glamorous rooftop bar. The upper level hosts this chic rooftop bar infused with a 1970s twist with geometric patterns and terracotta hues. On the lower level, the panoramic pool, framed by retro tile motifs, stretches toward the Mediterranean.
