Spanish carrier Iberia received its first Airbus A350-900 aircraft late last month, during a ceremony at the Airbus factory in Toulouse.

“This aircraft is a symbol of all the changes being made in Iberia,” said Luis Gallego, chairman and CEO. “In the past few years we transformed Iberia for the sake of survival. Now, we are undertaking a new transformation for the sake of excellence. And this aircraft perfectly represents this change of cycle.”

The A350-900 aircraft boasts enhanced aerodynamic performance and structure, thanks to its use of composite materials and innovative wing, window frame and landing gear designs. Enhancements also allow for 25 percent less fuel consumption and emissions. The 348-seat aircraft is one of 15 joining Iberia’s fleet through 2021.

Travelers may expect 31 seats in business class, 24 in premium economy and 293 in economy. The aircraft’s new design provides more passenger room and larger spaces for storing hand luggage. All seats offer individual entertainment screens, charging capabilities for electronic devices and access to on-board WiFi. Business-class passengers enjoy extra-wide aisles, 18-inch display screens and additional leg space. The overall flight experience for all passengers is improved via a draft-free ventilation system with ozone filters, state-of-the-art temperature and humidity controls, panoramic windows and LED lights. The aircraft is also the quietest on the market.

The aircraft makes its first appearance on routes between Madrid (MAD) and both London (LHR) and Paris (CDG) starting July 20. Starting Aug. 4, it serves flights between Madrid and New York (JFK).
