Hyatt Regency Houston/Galleria Review

One of the newest hotels to open in Houston is the Hyatt Regency Houston/Galleria. The gleaming 14-story property is located across the street from the largest shopping center in Texas. The hotel sits on a 7.6-acre, mixed-use development, Galleria Plaza, composed of office and retail space, as well as Hyatt Place Houston.

The Hyatt Regency’s interior design incorporates geographic elements found in the Lone Star State and gives a nod to the oil industry through the artwork displayed throughout the hotel. The themes are subtle and blend beautifully with the property’s modern aesthetic.

After the valet parked our car, we were quickly checked into our guestroom which featured a king-sized Hyatt Grand Bed. The gray and brown décor could easily have been a dull combination, but it wasn’t. The floor-to-ceiling windows provided an impressive view of the Uptown neighborhood, and blackout curtains ensured a restful night.

A paneled wall contained a 55-inch, flat-screen HD television with plug and play capability. WiFi is complimentary. Additional amenities included a coffee bar, mini-fridge, in-room laptop-size safe and a large bathroom with a rain shower and a well-lit vanity mirror. Whether it was the generous square footage or the minimalist furniture, we never felt cramped.

Open 24 hours a day, the hotel’s large StayFit gym overlooks the outdoor swimming pool with an ample deck for sun bathing. Guests can order in-room dining from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily or eat at the Urban Star Restaurant, which serves an impressive breakfast buffet, lunch and dinner. Hurried guests can grab a quick bite from the Urban Star Market, which is also a great place to find unique Texas-themed food. How about a pint of Beth Marie’s Hog Wild ice cream with chunks of bacon, chocolate and maple swirls?

The uptown area of Houston has dozens of restaurants — just ask the concierge for a recommendation. Guests may also request a complimentary ride on the hotel shuttle for destinations within a three-mile radius.
