If you haven’t started planning for next year’s total solar eclipse viewing, you have some serious work to do. Next year’s total eclipse will only be visible from Antarctica and won’t happen again for 75 years.
In order to give the public a chance to see the eclipse in real time, Hurtigruten is offering two itineraries to allow passengers optimal viewing.
“We will sail both the world’s first hybrid electric-powered expedition ship, the MS Roald Amundsen, and her sister ship, the MS Fram, to prime positions outside the South Orkney Islands aiming to see this spectacular natural phenomenon,” said Daniel Skjeldam, CEO, Hurtigruten.
The sailings include a number of experts providing lectures and opportunities to learn about the nature of the eclipse before the event actually occurs.
“We aim for all Hurtigruten sailings to be life-changing and transformational,” said Skjeldam. “These experts will further deepen and expand this unequalled possibility to experience one of nature’s most striking events.”
One of Hurtigruten’s sailings lasts 18 days. The Ultimate Expedition and Solar Eclipse sailing departs from the Falklands and lasts 23 days. The sailings are nearly two years away, but it is a good idea to start looking into the expedition if this type of journey interests you.
