The OAG Punctuality League 2018, a comprehensive annual ranking of on-time performance from OAG, sums up aviation data for 2017.
It found Hawaiian Airlines was the most punctual airline in North America in 2017, and the third-most punctual in the world, with an average on-time performance of 87.2 percent. Following in the Top 5 were Delta Air Lines, Alaska Airlines, United Airlines and American Airlines, in descending order. However, some of the top performers saw small dips in their on-time performance last year, with Hawaiian experiencing a decrease of 2.6 percent and Delta 1.5 percent.
In terms of international airports, Minneapolis International Airport (MSP) leads the way in the Major Airports category. In the Mega Airport category, U.S. airports showed up in third (Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson), fourth (Denver) and fifth (Dallas/Fort Worth) place.
“Flight delays and cancellations have historically been one of the most stressful aspects of travel,” said Mike Benjamin, COO, OAG. “That’s slowly changing as more airports and airlines prioritize on-time performance. In 2017, we saw the investments in punctuality pay-off: The United States performed exceptionally well against its global counterparts, with five airlines and four airports finishing in the Top 10 globally in their respective Mega categories.”
OAG also analyzed on-time percentages for busiest routes. In the United States, New York LaGuardia (LGA) to Chicago (ORD) was the best-performing Busiest Domestic Route, with an on-time percentage of 73.7 percent. United Airlines was the route’s top performer. Overall, Hong Kong (HKG) to Taipei (TPE) was the most heavily trafficked international route.

There’s a lot happening on the beautiful island of Maui and recovery from the devastating fires in Lahaina is underway. Among happy events is a gorgeous cultural redesign of all the suites and villas at Fairmont Kea Lani, plus the opening of the resort’s Hale Kukuna — a 2,000-square-foot cultural center that focuses on sharing Hawai’ian culture, traditions and history, with the goal of a reciprocal sharing of ‘ike (knowledge) and mo’olelo (stories) that link the island’s storied past and vibrant present.

May 6, 2024Explore Portugal on a Wine Tasting Tour with a Touch of History
All it takes is one glance at the grounds of Quinta Dona Maria, which includes a grand villa and surrounding gardens, to realize wine tasting in Portugal comes with a good dose of history. The vineyard is located in Estremoz, just northeast of the first-century Roman ruins found in Evora. In 1718 King João V built this estate for his lover, Dona Maria. When she died, the current owner’s ancestors purchased the land and have been making wine ever since. Taste the wine, which is terrific, especially the full-bodied red Dona Maria Grand Reserve. Then venture inside a building that stores large amphora vases, including one dating back to the 1200s.
