Cape Town is not only one of the capitals of South Africa but also the oldest city in the country. Cape Town hugs the Port of Cape Town in Table Bay, extending to the Hottentots Holland Mountains. The city endured years of segregation during apartheid, including uprisings. Today the city continues to rebound in a post-apartheid era, with many major companies headquartered in the city center, popular beaches teeming with visitors in warmer months, engaging museums and aquariums, and a thriving tourist industry promoting the city’s culture and natural beauty.
GETTING THERE & AROUND
Cape Town International Airport operates both domestic and international flights across two terminals, connecting to U.S. cities such as Atlanta (ATL); Newark (EWR); and Washington, D.C. (IAD). Located about 12 miles from the city center, it connects to the city via the N2 freeway and a major road network downtown. Taxis, ride shares like Uber and Bolt, and private shuttle companies provide transportation to and from the airport. As a port city, Cape Town also offers ferries to places such as Tristan da Cunha. Passenger rail service Shosholoza Meyl and commuter rail service Metrorail are also available.

Nov 17, 2025Explore the Historic Enclaves of Poland’s Baltic City
As one would expect for a city dating to the 10th century, the history of Gdańsk, Poland, played a significant role in trade and commerce due to its strategic location on the Baltic Sea. In the late Middle Ages, Gdańsk became an important harbor and was part of the Teutonic State (1308–1457). Heavily impacted by World War II, today the city thrives as an important economic and cultural center ... although, unfortunately, it’s often overlooked by North American leisure tourists.

Nov 15, 2025Master the Meandering County Louth Golf Club Along the Irish Sea
Those in the know refer simply to County Louth Golf Club as Baltray, but it can be quite confusing, as the tee marker logo reads “Baltray Links” and the scorecard logo says “County Louth Golf Club.” A rose by any other name, I guess? The location of the course proves prime for American golfers who collect courses they have played, like seashells on the beach. Baltray lies just 45 minutes from Dublin Airport and a mere 75 minutes from Belfast Airport ... maybe quicker if you have a heavy foot.
