Dusit International, one of Thailand’s leading hotel and property development companies, reopened its flagship property, Dusit Thani Bangkok, in late September 2024. The hotel was completely rebuilt from the ground up as part of the $1.4 billion Dusit Central Park mixed-use development project.

The original Dusit Thani Bangkok property had a 54-year presence in Bangkok, and the new Dusit Thani Bangkok sets the standard again in Bangkok for luxury hospitality. Designed with upscale travelers in mind, this hotel is determined to make history again by establishing groundbreaking innovations in service and design.

The new hotel features 257 guestrooms, a reduction from the old hotel’s 517 to prioritize spaciousness. These new rooms were designed by André Fu Studio to blend traditional elegance with modern luxury while uniquely framing expansive park views. All guestrooms in the new hotel offer views of Lumpini Park. With cantilevered window seats extending from each guestroom, guests can enjoy a stunning panorama of the city.

“For over five decades, the original Dusit Thani Bangkok was a beloved landmark, a true ambassador of Thai hospitality for global travelers,” said Suphajee Suthumpun, group CEO, Dusit International. “Sustainability remains a core focus for Dusit, and this commitment is also reflected in the new hotel’s design and operations.”

Designed by Architects 49 Limited and Office for Metropolitan Architecture, the new hotel’s design pays tribute to the unique style of its predecessor. Its elegant interiors, crafted by noted Asian interior design firm André Fu Studio, blends the original hotel’s rich heritage with contemporary Thai aesthetics, using warm color tones and traditional motifs for a modern interpretation of classic Thai artistry and craftsmanship.

The Heritage Floor, designed by Thai interior design firm P49DEESIGN, captures the spirit of the original property. This floor is adorned with exclusive artwork by local artists, each inspired by the hotel’s legacy. The original hotel’s iconic golden spire, a beloved landmark, returned, now contained within a new, three-times-larger spire. Paintings and murals from the hotel’s original Benjarong Thai Restaurant, including its meticulously preserved main pillars, have been carefully removed and reinstalled in the new hotel’s main lobby. The original carved teak ceiling has also been meticulously reassembled and given new life within the hotel.

Beyond aesthetics, the new Dusit Thani Bangkok also incorporates Feng Shui principles for a holistic guest experience.

“Our goal was to seamlessly integrate world-class design with the legacy of the original hotel, and this included combining ancient Feng-Shui wisdom about wind and water with modern architecture,” said Somkiat Lo-chindapong, deputy managing director, Architects 49 Limited. “This approach is evident in the building’s positioning within Dusit Central Park, ensuring each guest room offers unobstructed views of Lumpini Park through large bay windows with a luxurious gold finish.”

Dusit Thani Bangkok also provides a unique urban wellness concept, offering wellness experiences beyond the spa, including 10 restaurants and bars created in collaboration with renowned chefs and mixologists. For business travelers and event planners, the hotel offers more than 54,000 square feet of dedicated meeting and event space.

The new property is the centerpiece of Dusit Central Park, the mixed-use development project that will include ultra-luxury residences (Dusit Residences and Dusit Parkside), a state-of-the-art office tower, a high-end retail center, and a 120,000 square-foot Roof Park. These additional components are expected to open gradually in 2025.

High-Spirited Hong Kong: The Dynamic Hub Embraces Its Maritime History and Culture

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
