There’s a new menu for Mrs. White’s Afternoon Tea at Ireland’s Dromoland Castle, featuring blends and flavors from around the world. Served between 2 and 5:30 p.m. daily beside the fireplace in the opulent Gallery — or beneath the sun on the terrace — service choices include full tea with freshly made sandwiches, cream cakes, fruit tart, delicate pastries, warm fruit scones with clotted cream and fruit preserves and Dromoland’s traditional fruit cake; Champagne Afternoon Tea with all of the above plus a glass of chilled Champagne or signature cocktail; or Light Afternoon Tea with a hot beverage, salad wrap, cream and fruit pastries and fruit scones with clotted cream and preserves.

Tea service at the castle is named after a kitchen maid called Mrs. White who was employed at Dromoland for decades. The grand, 16th-century castle is set amid 450 acres of sprawling grounds and gardens beside Lough Dromoland in the County Clare village of Newmarket-on-Fergus, not far from Shannon Airport. The gardens, including a formal rose garden and lily pond, were modeled after the designs of Andre Le Notre, who was behind the fabulous gardens at Versailles. Deer, pheasant and other local wildlife wander freely on the grounds, and trout fishing, archery, tennis and horseback riding are available. Along with 98 plush guestrooms and a lavish spa, there’s also the championship parkland golf course at Dromoland Castle Golf and Country Club. The practice facilities include 10 automated Driving Bays featuring Golf-Tech’s second-generation Power Tees.
