News

Adventures by Disney unveiled its first-ever river cruising itineraries sailing with luxury river cruise line AmaWaterways. Four sailings along the Danube in the summer of 2016 as well as a holiday-themed journey in December 2016 provide families with the chance to experience Europe in a way that is active, immersive and easy.

The Adventures by Disney river cruises will explore iconic locations and hidden gems in eight destinations across four European countries, including Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary. Each cruise will offer travelers maximum port time in each city, arriving at dawn and departing late at night. In addition to the renowned crew of AmaWaterways, eight Adventures by Disney guides will support guests on each journey.

“Celebrating 10 years in the family tourism industry, Adventures by Disney is always looking for new ways to deliver extraordinary vacation experiences that are both memorable and effortless for our guests,” said Ken Potrock, senior vice president, Adventures by Disney. “Recognizing the untapped potential and broadening appeal of the river cruising market, we worked with AmaWaterways to provide families with an immersive, personalized experience unlike anything we’ve presented before.”

Guests will sail aboard the new 170-passenger AmaViola, featuring family-friendly configurations including six sets of connecting staterooms as well as some guestrooms and suites with accommodations for three- and four-person families.

Adventures by Disney exclusive sailings will take place July 7–14, July 14–21, July 21–28 and July 28–Aug. 4, 2016. Highlights of the eight-day/seven-night adventures include a tour of Mirabell Gardens and adventures through a salt mine in Austria; a nighttime illuminations cruise in Budapest; horse show at Lazar Equestrian Park in Hungary; medieval activities at Devin Castle in Bratislava in Slovakia; private marionette performance and strudel making demo at Schonbrunn Palace in Austria; a falconry show at Hohenwerfen castle in Austria; a walk along the tree tops at a unique outdoor adventure center in Kopfing, Germany; an Oktoberfest event at a local brewery in Germany; themed meals and culinary activities, such as interactive goulash and strudel making; and biking in every port.

What Maui Visitors Need to Know

There’s a lot happening on the beautiful island of Maui and recovery from the devastating fires in Lahaina is underway. Among happy events is a gorgeous cultural redesign of all the suites and villas at Fairmont Kea Lani, plus the opening of the resort’s Hale Kukuna — a 2,000-square-foot cultural center that focuses on sharing Hawai’ian culture, traditions and history, with the goal of a reciprocal sharing of ‘ike (knowledge) and mo’olelo (stories) that link the island’s storied past and vibrant present.

Explore Portugal on a Wine Tasting Tour with a Touch of History

All it takes is one glance at the grounds of Quinta Dona Maria, which includes a grand villa and surrounding gardens, to realize wine tasting in Portugal comes with a good dose of history. The vineyard is located in Estremoz, just northeast of the first-century Roman ruins found in Evora. In 1718 King João V built this estate for his lover, Dona Maria. When she died, the current owner’s ancestors purchased the land and have been making wine ever since. Taste the wine, which is terrific, especially the full-bodied red Dona Maria Grand Reserve. Then venture inside a building that stores large amphora vases, including one dating back to the 1200s.
