DHL Express Germany and Munich Airport reached an agreement for the construction of a new cargo building at the airport. The site of the new building is currently occupied by car parks. DHL Express will plan, build and operate the new building and lease the land from Munich Airport. The start of operations in the new building, slated for 2022, will be six times bigger than DHL’s current operations at the airport.
The new building will meet the security requirements of the Transported Asset Protection Association, and obtain TAPA Class A certification, the highest security level in air transportation.
“Particularly in these very difficult times for the aviation industry, this sends an important signal and is a strong proof of confidence in Munich as a business location,” said Jost Lammers, CEO, Munich Airport. “The increased commitment of DHL Express will sharpen our profile as a logistics location and create significant stimulation for air freight traffic.”
