Delta Air Lines extends its commitment to safer travel by announcing it will continue to block the selection of middle seats and cap seating in every cabin through Sept. 30. As of press time, Delta is the only U.S. carrier to make this commitment.

The seating cap in place through September is 50 percent in first class; 60 percent in the main cabin, Delta Comfort+ and Delta Premium Select; and 75 percent in Delta One. Middle seats show as unavailable or not assignable. Some aisle seats will be blocked on flights with 2-2 seating configurations. On routes with increasing customer demand, the airline will look to upsize to a larger aircraft or add more flights.

Beginning today, June 10, Delta resumed automatic, advance Medallion Complimentary Upgrades to Delta One (domestic United States), First Class and Delta Comfort+. These were previously managed at the gate, and are still subject to availability and as permitted by seat caps.

Some of the other changes implemented by Delta as a result of the pandemic include requiring passengers and employees to wear face coverings; installing plexiglass shields at counters and in lounges; using state-of-the-art circulation systems; boarding from back to front; and providing supplies to customers, like hand sanitizer, when available.

Delta also extended its change-fee waiver through June 30.

Will Delta’s decision make you more likely to book Delta flights over other U.S. carriers? Do these measures make you feel safer? When do you plan to travel again? Tell us about it. Email us at [email protected]. Please include your full name and location.

By the early 1900s, Wells was running the largest eyeglass manufacturing company in the world, owning several factories in Southbridge and occupying more than 80 acres on both sides of the Quinebaug River. It was called the American Optical Company, known locally in town as “AO.”
