A recent study from CruiseWatch, a site alerting travelers to price drops in cruises, claims cruising for an entire year is cheaper than the cost of living in some U.S. cities. After studying five years of cruise pricing and U.S. census data, the company pulled statistics it says are as timely and accurate as possible. CruiseWatch estimates the average 2.5-person household in New York City spends around $637 per week to live, compared to an average of $313.25 per week for an interior, two-person cabin on the most affordable cruises in the company’s database. Along these lines, New York City residents would save $10,430 per person per year by continuously cruising for one year. Following not far behind are Honolulu and San Francisco, where residents would save $7,518 per person per year and $7,154 per person per year, respectively. “To go on non-stop cruises and save some money is an impressive proposition. It demonstrates the value you get out of a cruise compared to the relatively high cost of living at home. And not to forget that going on a cruise means to enjoy amazing ports and different countries. And all you have to do is to wake up at morning and look out of the window,” said Britta Bernhard, co-founder, CruiseWatch. Savings are mostly seen in the winter months, and those savings are needed to cover surcharges in the summer, but the numbers, according to CruiseWatch, still seem to balance out.
