If you’ve ever traveled to Seattle or British Columbia, chances are you’ve spotted the ultra-quick Clipper, a ferry emblazoned with the Union Jack zipping around Puget Sound. The Seattle-based Clipper Navigation, Inc., which currently runs passenger ferry routes between Vancouver, Victoria and Seattle, announced the company has been purchased by German-based ferry and shipping company Forde Reederei Seetouristik.
And FRS has big plans in the works for Clipper’s expansion. The company is planning to expand current service between Victoria and Vancouver, as well as adding a new ferry route between Florida and Cuba, assuming the company can obtain proper government approval, reports The Seattle Times.
The Clipper owns three Victoria Clipper vessels; FRS is quite a bit larger, operating “60 vessels in 12 countries” and carrying, “more than 7 million passengers and 1.9 million vehicles last year,” according to the Seattle Times.
