Boston: Back On The Map

Dec 28, 2013
Daily / Feature

Following a period of decline in the number of non-stop international flights originating in Boston, the city is back on the map with three international carriers set to begin service in 2014. Emirates begins service from Boston to Dubai in March, followed by the debut of Turkish Airlines’ service to Istanbul in May and Hainan Airlines’ flights to Beijing in June. The new direct non-stop flights beginning in 2014 follow the launch of Japan Airlines’ flights to Tokyo in April 2012 and Copa Airlines’ service to Panama City in July 2013.

The growing roster of international flights originating Boston is due in part to Massport’s International Air Service Incentive Program, an effort to court international carriers to enter the Boston market via incentives including landing fee credits and joint advertising opportunities. Massport instituted the program to compete with other airports around the country, most of which offer some type of financial incentive to attract new international air service. The initiative opens non-stop routes from Boston to some of the world’s fastest-growing commercial centers in Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.

Fairfield by Marriott Phnom Penh Review

Phnom Penh as we imagined it stretches beneath us: a picturesque, low-rise mix of Southeast Asian and French Colonial styles. When the inhabitants of those buildings look back at us here in the Fairfield by Marriott hotel in Chip Mong Tower, they see the future.

Amansara Review

It was more than a car journey; it was a transition between worlds. At our first hotel in Siem Reap, huge coaches constantly pulled up outside the lobby to deposit or receive international tour groups; we departed in very different style, in a 1965 black Mercedes limousine once owned by King Sihanouk. The mundanities of mass tourism were left behind. We progressed through the chaotic Cambodian streets in regal comfort and soon arrived at a solid gate.
