A few weekends ago, my friend and I took another friend away for a weekend of winery hopping as a mini-bachelorette party. We haven’t all been together in years, so it was a perfect excuse to reconnect and celebrate her upcoming wedding. Our Airbnb was just across the state line of West Virginia, and we spent the day exploring wineries in Purcellville, Virginia.
Our first night we stayed in and had wine and a charcuterie board for dinner as we caught up. The next day we loaded up a cooler with snacks and water and headed out for our day of exploring nearby wineries. Up first: Two Twisted Posts Winery. We arrived shortly after the family-owned and -operated winery opened for the day. We decided to sit on the patio. We each opted for a tasting and a glass of the sangria special. The relaxed atmosphere and peaceful surroundings were a perfect way to start our day.
Next, we had reservations at the popular Breaux Vineyards. The 404-acre estate was bustling with guests when we arrived. The host brought us to our outdoor table, and my friend and I went inside to order tastings. Unfortunately, the windy weather got in our way and we spilled the wine as we walked back to our table. One of the incredible staff members immediately noticed and brought us new tastings, free of charge. We truly appreciated the excellent customer service! We enjoyed our wine, snacks and the live music before heading to our next stop.
Maggie Malick Wine Caves also had live music during our visit. They offer tastings of red wine, white wine or a mix. This was perfect for us, as we each have different preferences and ordered one of each tasting. We had one last stop on our wine journey: 868 Estate Vineyards. The charming grounds offered picnic tables, a patio and indoor tasting room with seating. We opted to sit on the patio and order a casual dinner and drinks. My friend and I decided on wine slushies and chicken wraps, and my other friend chose a wine tasting and pulled pork sandwich. There was more live music here, which we enjoyed with our meal.
All of the wineries we visited were a short drive from each another, ideal for a leisurely afternoon of winery hopping. I highly recommend a visit to Purcellville, Virginia, for a weekend of good wine and good times with friends or family.

Sep 6, 2024Escape to Tahiti for a Captivating Island-Hopping Cruise
The 118 islands of French Polynesia reveal themselves layer by fascinating layer, with the spirit of mana (vital force) linking them all the way from Tahiti to the remote reaches of the Marquesas. This is part of the world best savored on a journey that dives as deep into culture as natural beauty, both above and below the water’s surface. A cruise makes it easy to cover a lot of ground while unpacking just once (and sneaking in some work done in comfort, too, during at-sea days). And cruising offers particular appeal within this semi-autonomous French territory sprawling across nearly 2 million square miles of ocean and covering five archipelagos.

Sep 4, 2024The Shelbourne Review
Facing the vast St. Stephen’s Green in the heart of Dublin sits the iconic and historic The Shelbourne. Few hotels master the perfect blend of history and luxury, but The Shelbourne gets it right. The site of the signing of the Irish Constitution in 1922 granting the Republic of Ireland its freedom from England, The Shelbourne has hosted its fair share of notable figures, from Michael Collins to Princess Grace Kelly to John Ford, the latter of which was the name of my suite.
