With Milwaukee Repertory Theater‘s 2024–25 season nearing its end, we took in one last production. The Last Five Years was a fantastic season finale for us.
Written and composed by Tony-winning composer Jason Robert Brown, The Last Five Years is a tear-jerker of a love story. Featuring Grace Bobber as Cathy and Asher Muldoon as Jamie, the story is told entirely through song. Although they are positioned next to each other, the pair rarely sing together.
While not giving a spoiler, it helps knowing Jamie tells his story from start to finish, while Cathy goes in reverse. Although it might sound quirky, perhaps even gimmicky, that works beautifully in the story.

One of the best parts of this production is its simplicity. Despite covering five years in their relationship, the set and costume changes are minimal, further driving home the point is the couple.

No matter your current relationship status, everyone has experienced something like this story. The Last Five Years might evoke any number of emotions, but I guarantee it will move you in some way.
Million Dollar Quartet, which ends May 24, is the last production this season. The 2025–26 season starts Oct. 31 with It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play.

Jul 13, 2026Review: Four Seasons Hotel St. Louis
ARRIVAL/CHECK-IN: After a late-night flight into St. Louis, I arrived at the Four Seasons around 1:30 a.m., completely exhausted. The moment I stepped into the lobby, I was warmly greeted by the front desk attendant, who checked me in quickly and efficiently. On my way to the elevators, I caught a glimpse of the stunning lobby which had a long stream of water flowing behind a glass wall paired with a unique sculpture. Even in my tired state, I knew I wanted to come back and take it all in during daylight.
