I have a close friend who resides in Colorado Springs, Colorado, so I’ve been fortunate to visit the scenically gorgeous area of Colorado several times. With so much to see and do in the area and a local as my guide, I’ve seen a lot of the local sights. While I’ve seen Pikes Peak and have stayed at The Broadmoor, I’ve never had the chance to experience The Broadmoor Manitou and Pikes Peak Cog Railway. When I got a press release recently that the historic railway is prepping to reopen following a $100 million renovation (in process since October 2017), I immediately added it to my list for my next visit to Colorado Springs.

The Broadmoor Manitou and Pikes Peak Cog Railway will be back and better than ever in May 2021. The iconic Pikes Peak Cog Railway, one of only two cog railways in the United States, and its view from the summit is where “America the Beautiful” was penned.

For those of you planning to visit soon, tickets are available now for spring and summer. The cost for the scenic, nine-mile journey to the 14,115-foot National Historic Landmark of Pikes Peak is $58 for adults and $48 for children 12 and under for advance e-ticket purchase or $59.50 at the depot window. The three-hour round trip showcases sightseeing, Colorado views and the new Manitou Depot and Pikes Peak Visitor Center, as well as so much more.

But this has not stopped travelers and locals from doing so, even with a steep fine of $1,000 for trespassing.
