The 2015 MLB season officially kicked off this week with a clash between the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals. While the outlook for the Philadelphia Phillies doesn’t look so great this year, I’m still looking forward to attending a few ballgames to enjoy the lively atmosphere and delicious food and beverage options at the always-evolving Citizens Bank Park. More than just hot dogs and peanuts, the concession stands at the South Philly stadium sell favorites like cheesesteaks at Campo’s and Tony Luke’s, crab fries at multiple Chickie’s and Pete’s locations throughout the park, Philly’s favorite fried chicken and donuts at the Federal Donuts stand and, my favorite, the Schmitter from McNally’s, featuring rare roast beef, salami, American cheese, onion, tomato and a special sauce packed in a fresh Kaiser roll. In addition to can’t-miss events throughout the year like Dollar Dog Night, fan appreciation day and fireworks, reasons to go to a Phillies game this season include new concession additions like Wayback Burgers, offering a huge cheeseburger with nine patties and nine slices of cheese on one bun; a stand serving wine and liquor, including a Phillies Wine, a dry red blend from local Chaddsford Winery; the South Philly Dog, featuring roasted red peppers, broccoli rabe and sharp provolone, at Phillies Frank Topped Dogs; and a slow-braised brisket sandwich with crispy pancetta and a fried egg at Harry the K’s. Even if you’re not part of the Phillies faithful, Citizen Bank Park is worth a visit for the food and beverage options. — Monique Barrett, eFlyer editor/associate editor
