Summers in the Hamptons: Part Three

by Rebecca Darakhshan

Aug 10, 2023

Welcome back to my Hamptons blog series! In this exciting installment, join me as I recount fabulous moments from a girls’ weekend in the charming oasis of Montauk.

Our weekend kicked off on a tasteful note at renowned Wolffer Winery. The weather may have been overcast, but it was the perfect backdrop for a delightful winetasting experience.

Montauk

Dinnertime led us to Crows Nest, a dining haven that perfectly blends elegance with a laid-back beach vibe. Our evening began at the outdoor bar, offering a panoramic view of tranquil Lake Montauk. Cocktails flowed, and my personal favorite, the refreshing watermelon cooler, added a burst of summer to our day. As the sun started to set, we moved indoors to eat dinner in the dining room. My choice, the lobster fettuccine, was an absolute treat!

With the night still young, we met up with friends and headed to Gurney’s Fire Pit, an atmospheric outdoor lounge overlooking the ocean, where we danced the night away.

The following day we made our way to New York Pilates, where we enjoyed a workout session that left us feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. Fueled by a sense of accomplishment, we rewarded ourselves with coffee and set off on a shopping spree through Montauk’s charming streets. Among the boutiques that stole our hearts were Wyld Blue, Bontemps and Montauk Dazies — each offering a unique array of treasures.

After spending the rest of our Saturday lounging by the pool, our gastronomic adventure continued at Talya, the new Mediterranean restaurant once occupied by Ruschmeyers. As the evening unfolded, the restaurant transformed into a vibrant nightlife scene where we stayed after dinner until we went back to our Airbnb.

Montauk

Regrettably, Sunday brought rain to our idyllic weekend. Nevertheless, we seized the moment and enjoyed a leisurely breakfast at Sant Ambroeus in East Hampton. It was the perfect conclusion to our Montauk girls’ escapade.

What Maui Visitors Need to Know

There’s a lot happening on the beautiful island of Maui and recovery from the devastating fires in Lahaina is underway. Among happy events is a gorgeous cultural redesign of all the suites and villas at Fairmont Kea Lani, plus the opening of the resort’s Hale Kukuna — a 2,000-square-foot cultural center that focuses on sharing Hawai’ian culture, traditions and history, with the goal of a reciprocal sharing of ‘ike (knowledge) and mo’olelo (stories) that link the island’s storied past and vibrant present.

Explore Portugal on a Wine Tasting Tour with a Touch of History

All it takes is one glance at the grounds of Quinta Dona Maria, which includes a grand villa and surrounding gardens, to realize wine tasting in Portugal comes with a good dose of history. The vineyard is located in Estremoz, just northeast of the first-century Roman ruins found in Evora. In 1718 King João V built this estate for his lover, Dona Maria. When she died, the current owner’s ancestors purchased the land and have been making wine ever since. Taste the wine, which is terrific, especially the full-bodied red Dona Maria Grand Reserve. Then venture inside a building that stores large amphora vases, including one dating back to the 1200s.
