Every year my friends and I go down to New Orleans to not only celebrate our early May birthdays but, more importantly, the New Orleans Jazz Fest. It is a fun time full of flavorful food, great friends and even better music.
For those of you who have never visited New Orleans, visiting during Jazz Fest is a must. The Fest occurs over two weekends, the last in April and the first in May, with about 50 different acts each day. The best thing about this event is that even if you aren’t a big concert goer, you can appreciate the food and culture.
This year, we plan on going to a 2 a.m. show at the famous Tipitina’s bar and attending Jazz Fest shows featuring Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Feist and Soul Rebels. In addition, there are some great shopping spots throughout the city where I hope to do some damage. Of course, you cannot leave New Orleans without having a beignet from Café du Monde and visiting the levee. I am thoroughly looking forward to these stops.
If you are attending Jazz Fest this year, start booking your tickets and hotel room now — if you wait until the last minute, hotels fill up and flights are outrageous. Regardless, I would definitely recommend visiting the New Orleans Jazz Fest!
