On a recent vacation to Miami, I was impressed with the extent art surrounds Miami. From South Beach to the neighborhoods, galleries and public installations are everywhere. My first night in the city, we visited the Wynnewood Art Walk. North of downtown Miami and just across Biscayne Bay from South Beach, Wynnewood is a growing neighborhood with a huge focus on art. More than 70 galleries, shops and restaurants are located within a small walking area. On the second Saturday of every month, many of the private galleries are open in the evening, and dozens of food trucks provide a smorgasbord of culinary experiences to the thousands who walk this open-air event. South Beach is home to many public art installations in parks and along the Lincoln Road Mall, an outdoor mall between 16th and 17th streets. Lincoln Road is home to a gallery exhibiting and selling works by the famous photographer Peter Lik and, of course, is home to Britto Central. Romero Britto’s style is instantly recognizable, and his works are ubiquitous in Miami, installed in public spaces and for sale in galleries in the form of wall art and souvenir shops in the form of everything from salt and pepper shakers to phone cases and luggage.
