A couple months ago, I wrote “Flights to Nowhere,” about sightseeing flights. EVA Air and Mobius put a new spin on the concept.

One of the largest airlines in Taiwan, EVA Air already offers sightseeing flights, allowing passengers to see the area from the sky. Partnering with Mobius, a sightseeing tour agency in Turkey, EVA created “Fly! Love Is in the Air” flights for singles on Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
Passengers on each flight will be seated in pairs randomly. Although they may move around the cabin, they are encouraged to engage with their seat partner.
These date flights last three hours in the air with an additional two hours of date time on the ground. Daytime flights fly above the east coast of Taiwan, while nighttime flights cruise over the west coast. Meals will be provided by Michelin-starred chef Motoke Nakamura.
The Christmas Day flight ends with a tea date on land. A candlelit dinner on land precedes the New Year’s Eve flight that ends with the countdown to 2021. The New Year’s Day flight features an elaborate breakfast.
These initial speed dating flights are limited to 40 passengers, all required to be university graduates and Taiwan citizens. Men must be between 28 and 38 years old, while women must be between 24 and 35 years old.
The Christmas flight sold out quickly, and others are filling fast. Much like flights to nowhere, other airlines are sure to create their own speed-dating flights. Valentine’s Day is another perfect time to offer another round of speed-dating flights.
